About Modern Wife
ModernWife.com was born in 1999. The idea came from my desire to showcase
what was abundant in my home: wonderful gifts my talented friends shared
with me. I set up the structure
of
the site based on the different rooms in the home. I worked on each
page as I dreamed of leaving my job to work at home. On the first day of 2001, I put in my notice and joined my husband working on our internet
business.
Modern Wife is a celebration of my dream come true: to work side-by-side with my life partner on our own time and in our own special place. I love my home, and I am so happy to share it with you.
Modern Wife Web Design Tools
Tools for making this website include Adobe Photoshop, Dreamweaver and Flash. If you are interested in making your own website but don't know where to start, Free Web Secrets is a great site for beginners, with lots of links to free web design tools.
Bravenet is another site I use a lot. They give away free web services, such as email forms, guestbooks, journals and more, in exchange for banner ads. Lots of banner ads. But hey... it's free! If you want to get rid of the banner ads, just upgrade to pro services for a small fee.
Another basic way to make your own website is through a blog, short for "web log." A blog is an online diary or journal. There are probably millions of blogs out there, ranging from cute diaries by children to major corporate blogs maintained by a whole staff of writers.
Blogs can be as easy as setting up accounts with web-based platforms such as Blogger, Xanga, Live Journal, Diaryland... or more complicated blog software installed by the user in their own servers.
I use a blog platform called Wordpress. It requires setting up in a server with a MySQL database, however you can also use get a blog hosted at the Wordpress server if you would rather not be bothered by all the technical stuff.
Hosting your own blog is more complicated but it's worth it if you want to have complete control of your content. Setting up free blogs is great if you don't want to be bothered by updates or any technical aspects, but you give up a bit of control over your content by hosting for free.
